“You will all fall away because of Me this night, for it is written, I will strike down the shepherd, and the sheep
of the flock shall be scattered.”  (Mark 14:27)

And so it shall be again in these End-times.  Just as the disciples departed from the faith because they didn’t
want to be affiliated with Jesus Christ, so it shall be again as events of the End-times unfold.

But, the focus today is not on the fact that the disciples denied Christ on the night He was arrested, or on the
fact that there will be those who call themselves Christians who will depart from the faith in the difficult days
ahead.  The focus today is
WHY.  Why did the disciples deny that they ever knew Christ?  Why will Christians
fall away from the faith during the terrible times to come?

Well, it is the same reason why Christians today are so weak.  It is the same reason why Christians today
cannot keep their marriages or families together.  It is the same reason why Christians today cannot lay hands
on the sick and the sick recover.  It is the same reason why Christians of today cannot lay their hands on
themselves and recover.  It is the same reason why the Christians of today have as many, if not more,
problems than the unsaved including being stressed, depressed, and under duress.

The answer is simple.
NO POWER!   The disciples denied Christ because of no POWER. And there will be a
great falling away from the faith in the future, particularly when the Antichrist hits the scene, because of a lack
of power.

You see, it takes power to heal the sick.  It takes
POWER to demand that sickness leave your body.  It takes
power to keep a marriage and family together particularly in these dreadful, challenging and evil times.  And, it
will take power to say no when you are told to take the mark of the beast.

Now, let me clarify something. Christians are weak not because they have no power, but because the power
that they have has not been activated.  I repeat. The disciples denied Jesus not because they had no power,
but the power that they had was not activated.  Some Christians will take the mark of the Beast, not because
they have no power, but because the power that they have will not be activated.

So the question for every Believer should be,  “When did I get this power and how do I activate it?”

First of all, the power that we are lacking and so desperately need comes from the Holy Spirit. But that power
is not activated until we are filled with the Holy Spirit.  Acts, chapter 2 speaks of  men and women who were in
an upper room waiting on the fulfillment of a promise made by Jesus Christ.  And on the day of Pentecost,
while they were waiting, cloven tongues of fire rested upon them.  And, Acts 2:4 says…

“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving
them utterance.”

The word “filled” comes from the Greek word,
pimplaymi, meaning “full of.” They were full of the Holy Ghost or
Holy Spirit. When you are full of the Holy Ghost you have activated the power needed to defeat Satan, to
defeat demons, and to defeat all the challenges of this life. But you see, the problem is most of us, most of the
time, are not filled with the Holy Spirit. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is different from having the Holy Spirit.
Every person who accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord receives the Holy Spirit at that moment.  The
Holy Spirit comes to dwell with you and to help you in your Christian walk.  Jesus told His disciples in John 14:
26…

“ But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring
to your remembrance all that I said to you.”

But, because you have received the Holy Spirit does not mean that you are filled with the Holy Spirit.  Let’s
look at the disciples.

In the book of Luke 9:1-2 it says…

“ And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons, and to heal
diseases.  And, He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God, and to perform healing.”

Verse 6 goes on to say that they went out preaching and healing.

And, again, in Matthew 10:1, Jesus gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal
every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.

So the disciples had power and Jesus gave it to them directly.  Why did Jesus give it to them directly?
Because, as long as He was with them they did not need the Holy Spirit.  So their power did not come from the
Holy Spirit, but directly from Jesus Christ. But look what happens later in Matthew 17:14-23.  A man whose son
was a lunatic, possessed by a demon had to bring his son to Jesus to be healed because the disciples could
not do it.  Now remember back in Matthew chapter 10, Jesus gave them authority over unclean spirits and
according to Luke 9:1, over demons.  But now they can’t heal this one.  What happened?  Did they lack
power?  No, Jesus gave them the power. The problem is, they were not filled with that power. And look what
Jesus says in Matthew 17:21, “But this kind (talking about the demon in the man’s son) does not go out except
by prayer and fasting.”

This means that the disciples could not cast out the demon because they were not engaging in consistent
prayer and fasting in order to exercise the power they needed. To be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit
requires consistent prayer and fasting.  You can’t be filled on a couple of quick prayers a day.

This is the same reason why the disciples denied Him on the night He was arrested and it was the same
reason why, even after His crucifixion and resurrection, they were still hiding out from the Jews, according to
John 20:19.

Now go with me to the book of John, chapter 20, verses 19-31. Jesus appears to His disciples after He has
been resurrected.  And look what He does in verse 22.  He breathes on them and says to them, “Receive the
Holy Spirit.” So now the disciples have the Holy Spirit.  Why?  Because Jesus is going away and He’s not
going to leave them alone.
So they received the Holy Spirit in John 20:22, but their power was not activated until Acts 2:4.  Jesus told
them in Acts 1:5…

“…for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

He goes on to say in verse 8…

“but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in
Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

So the disciples received the Holy Spirit back in John 20:22 but they were not baptized in the Holy Spirit or
filled with the Holy Spirit until Acts 2:4, the day of Pentecost.  Their power was not activated until the day of
Pentecost when they were filled.  And, we know that the disciples when on to change the world.  Because their
power had been activated, not only were they healing the sick with their hands, they were healing the sick with
their shadows! Because their power had been activated, they were no longer afraid of death and they spoke
with great courage and boldness.

But, what were those men and women doing before they were filled with the Holy Ghost? Acts 1:14 says that
they were all with one mind and continually devoting themselves to prayer.  Isn’t that what Jesus said?
“This
kind comes out only through prayer and fasting.”

If you want that power, that
dudamis or dynamite power, to do the things that God has commissioned you to
do. If you want that power that it takes to cast out demons, to heal the sick, to take charge over the demons
that plague your marriage and your family. Then, you must spend significant time in prayer and study of
God’s Word. You must continuously, daily, devote yourself to prayer and allow the Spirit of God to fill you; to
baptize you. This is the baptism that brings power.

You have the power, just activate it!

If you are not a child of God, then you are even powerless. God wants you, too, to have the power to cast the
demons out of your life and to live a fruitful and productive life in Christ. But, it is only when you have
accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior can you have this awesome power of the Holy Spirit.  All it
takes is a believing heart and an open confession. If you are tired of being a weak Christian or you may not
be a Christian at all but, today you realize that it is only through Christ that you can have the power of the
Holy Spirit, then won’t you repeat after me?

“Dear Jesus, I am a powerless sinner.  Forgive and cleanse me of my sins.  I want to be not only born of your
Spirit; I want to be filled with your Holy Spirit. With my mouth, I openly confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
and I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead.  Come into my life and become the Lord of my
life.  In the name of Messiah, the Christ I pray.  Amen.”

A Great Falling Away
is Coming!
